Euro Space Center: Reaching for the Stars

This summer, a group of Year 10 students enjoyed an unforgettable adventure at the Euro Space Center in Belgium, spending the weekend as astronauts-in-training and experiencing the excitement of space exploration first-hand.

Set in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes, the Euro Space Center offers a unique immersive experience where visitors can explore the challenges and possibilities of human spaceflight. Designed to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and explorers, the centre combines hands-on activities, realistic simulations and exciting STEM experiences in a truly memorable setting.

During the trip, students took part in a wide range of activities that tested their problem-solving, teamwork and resilience. They experienced what it feels like to move in lunar gravity, trained for the physical demands of space travel, built and raced air-powered cars, and learned about life aboard the International Space Station. Through interactive workshops and challenges, students discovered how astronauts live and work in space and gained a greater understanding of the science and technology that make space exploration possible.

What made the visit particularly special was seeing students grow in confidence, embrace new challenges and support one another throughout the experience. The trip brought science to life in a way that simply cannot be replicated in the classroom, turning complex concepts into exciting, hands-on learning opportunities.

Students returned to Rosebery full of enthusiasm, inspiration and stories to share. Many spoke about how much they had enjoyed the experience and how it had opened their eyes to future opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

We are especially grateful that opportunities like this can be enjoyed by more students thanks to the generosity of the Di Long Bursary, which helps ensure that exceptional educational experiences are accessible to those who might otherwise miss out.

The smiles, confidence and excitement seen throughout the trip were a wonderful reminder of the power of learning beyond the classroom. In fact, many students came back asking the same question: "Can we go again next year?"
