SEND
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
at Rosebery School
Who are SEND students?
Since 2001, The Code of Practice has defined students with a learning difficulty if they:
“Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age: or have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for children of the same age in schools within the area of the local educational authority”
Students with SEND can be categorised as having a primary need in one or more of the following areas: Cognition and Learning, Communication and Interaction, Social, Mental and Emotional Wellbeing, Sensory and/or Physical.
Our identification and subsequent support and intervention is delivered through ‘the Pyramid of Need’.

Universal
This is provision and support that is available and accessible to all students to ensure progress is being made and students feel supported and celebrated in school.
Universal Plus
These provide adaptive strategies for individuals to support their progress through the universal offer and could be delivered through the choice of activities, the language being used in the class and reassurance from staff.
Targeted Intervention
This is school level intervention to address specific areas of difficulty that may have been identified through in-house data, staff observations and feedback or parental concerns. These will be measured to assess the impact and effectiveness on student progress and wellbeing.
Specialist support
This provides external specialist intervention or provision, typically for students with Education, Health and Care plans where support is stipulated.
